Summary: His mum's angry with him when he gets home, again.


She's angry again with him, his mum, when he gets back from Mike's. She gives him the silent treatment, or as close as she gets; short, clipped answers all evening, punctuated with, "Upset? Why would I be upset?" when he asks, and bouts of moody quiet that have him bracing for the inevitable implosion until he gives up on watching TV and holes up in his room with a locked door and his well-thumbed copy of It.

If he's lucky, he can duck her until she gets over whatever he did. Just like last time, as usual, until next time.

Poor Owen. The worst part is, he probably didn't do anything to deserve his mum's anger, she resents him just for existing.

Yeah, I just think of that line of his, about how he became a doctor because he thought if he could save one life his would be worthwhile, and it's just heartbreaking--it was that even more than the scene from Adam that made me want to write more childhood fics for him.

And he's saved a lot of lives, even more since joining Torchwood. He couldn't save Katie, but he's doing his best to make sure other people don't lose their loved ones to alien parasites, predators, and invaders.
