They're outside the Hub when the Rift closes.
The readings start going wild in the morning, and it's a mess from there. Reports of freak storms, strange lights, and massive ion fluctuations, all centered over London.
All six of them fit and able, and not a thing anyone can do.
And then the sun starts exploding.
They run outside to watch. Tosh is on the phone with UNIT, trying to find out something—anything—and Gwen's on with Andy, and Rhys is on with that bloke from Glasgow he went on that mission to Perth with, but nothing.
"Ianto," Jack says when they step outside and see the sun, a giant, angry ball of yellow-orange, grow in front of them.
"Sir?" Ianto turns, expecting orders, but Jack just holds out his hand.
"Fucking hell," Owen says, his arms around Tosh's shoulders.
So. This is it.
"If there was ever a time for the Doctor to show up," Jack starts.
And suddenly, without a sound, the sun goes back to normal. The sky turns blue.
And, in Tosh's hand, for the first time ever, the Rift monitor goes dark.
"Well," Jack says. "That was."
"Lucky?" Gwen asks.
Jack shrugs. "Let's go with that."
